The Health Professions Registration Act 2005 ("the Act") was implemented on 1 July 2007. As a result, the new Medical Radiation Practitioners Board of Victoria was established, replacing the Medical Radiation Technologists Board. The main purpose of the new Act is to protect the public by providing for the registration of health practitioners and a common system of investigations into the professional conduct, professional performance and ability to practice, of registered health practitioners. UPDATE: 3 October 2008. The board has joined with the other Australian State and Territory Boards to prepare a submission to include medical radiation technology as a nationally registered health profession.
